History of Equestrian Sports
• The notes mention that equestrian sports have a long history, starting from the 1912 Summer Olympics.
• Initially, only Army officers could participate, not soldiers. In 1928, the first soldier took part and won a medal.
• A major change occurred during the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, when the sport was opened to civilians, private clubs, and women.
• It mentions Lis Hartel, who became the first woman to represent her country and win a silver medal.
Equestrian Sports in India
• In Asia and India, the sport gained prominence during the 1982 Asian Games held in Delhi.
• India hosts three main disciplines: Show Jumping, Dressage, and Eventing, which have been active since 1982.
